Enough is Enough

Overcome with conviction and compassion we could not stand idly by and do nothing after hearing about our world’s Global Water Crisis. Youth ministry needs to be more than ALL YOU CAN EAT PIZZA, XBOX, CONCERTS and SMALL GROUPS… Youth Ministry needs to be about doing the things that Jesus did. We are so thankful that the PAOC has once again stepped out of the box to endorse, push and spearhead a project like the LIFE CAMPAIGN.

This year, with a personal campaign of our own we launched an initiative called TEN THOUSAND TWENTY TEN, in other words, our youth ministry in Nanaimo British Colombia pledged to raise $10000 for water wells in support of the Life Campaign in 2010.

This was not an easy task for our group; however, God did amazing things in our student’s hearts and through God’s leading, determination and sacrifice we managed to achieve our goal. In fact, is our honour to say that at the end of this month we will be cutting a cheque for $10 000 to the Life Campaign.

Beyond a pat on the back, we want to challenge other groups to do the same.

Imagine what would happen if the youth ministries of the BC/YUKON district banded together and said “Enough is Enough.”  Imagine what would happen if we all dreamed outside of our own context for a moment and invested more than cheap words and an occasional offering.  Caring for the orphan and the widow needs to be a part of our DNA as the church (and our youth ministries). Poverty isn’t somebody else’s problem…as Christian’s… it is our problem, and The LIFE CAMPAIGN is a fantastic way for us as youth leaders to tangibly respond to a real need.

As a young adult I was challenged by the lyrics of rap song, “…either you are a part of the problem, or a part of the solution. What’s your contribution to life?” Now as a Pastor, colleague, peer, friend, stranger…I want to challenge you. When you step back and evaluate your youth ministry in terms of your response to Global Issues, are you cultivating and discipling a youth culture that is a part of the problem or a part of the solution… and ultimately, what’s your contribution to Life?
